  1. This is wonderful – great questions Heat and you thoughtfully respond to Debra and the conversation is easy between you. I am now thinking deeply about Debra’s important work and the words of resistance people (art gallery owners/ exhibition centres) place as shields to the pain of violence and injustice implied or suggested by Debra’s creations. So, what are ‘suitable’ social commentary creations for the public? Why can film producers do this and even be given prizes for making us think about the very same things Debra’s skilful, thought provoking creations is all about. Thank you both for making me think deeply.

    • Thank you. “But the children!” seems to be often to be, “I don’t want to have an uncomfortable conversation with my kid, so you better not provoke one.” Which is not to say that there’s no line on age-appropriateness, just that I think we misplace the line frequently, not demanding better of ourselves and underestimating our kids.
